Human life has value.
The poor living in the gutter are as valuable as the rich living in a manor.
The scoundrel is no less valuable than the saint.
Because of this, every life a reaper takes must be redeemed.
Raven has lived by this first tenet since she was trained by her father to become a reaper. But since his death, she’s been spending years redeeming the lives she’s taken. By her count, she’s even and it’s time for that life to end. If she settles down and becomes a wife, she might just feel human again. But on the way to the life she thinks she wants, the baron of New Haven asks her to complete a task which she cannot ignore… Just when Raven decides to give up on her life as an assassin, she’s pulled right back in.
This is the complete Steampunk Fantasy novel - all four parts of the serial in one volume! Also includes bonus features not found in the episodes ~
Chronicles of Steele Raven The Complete Story eBook Pauline Creeden
I originally read Raven as a serial, and each time I got to the end, I couldn't wait to read the next one!First, let me mention the cover art. It's gorgeous, and perfectly complements this well written steampunk fantasy. Plus, the interior formatting is as much a work of art as the cover is.
Raven Steele, trained as a reaper, resides in a fantastic world of steam-powered horses and other gadgets. Reapers were part of the duke's elite guard, working in the capacity of bodyguards and assassins. But, to keep the reapers humble, they were required to save a life for every one they took as an assassin.
The adventure begins when an out-of control horse carrying a young boy, careens off of a bridge. In the right place at the right time, Raven doesn't hesitate to save the boy's life, whom she later learns is a baron. With a curse upon him, Raven takes on the challenge to protect him and find a way to lift the curse. We follow Raven on her journey to protect young Darius.
Pauline crafted wonderful three-dimensional characters. I feel as if i've known Raven her entire life, and watching her speed and dexterity makes me feel like a proud mama. I enjoy seeing Darius' personality emerge as he learns to trust Raven, and I feel just as protective of him as Raven does. One of the things I love about this story is Raven's relationship with Darius. She truly cares of him, and not just as a life to redeem for one she has taken as a reaper.
And what can I say about Captain Grant? He recognizes that Raven's "passion was like a storm, and he could either cower from the lightning, or be brave and stand in the rain." I'd say Grant isn't the type to ever cower.
I admire Pauline's ability to blend steampunk and fantasy so flawlessly. The world she created feels real. It speaks to her abilities and creativeness, and I will no doubt be a lifelong fan. Raven is exceptionally well written (and edited), and filled with adventure and action at just the right pace.
One of my favorite things about Raven is the lesson at the beginning of each chapter. Each one is beautifully written, like a poem.
With a reaper redeeming the lives she has taken, mechanical horses and men, witchcraft, and so many unexpected twists, this steampunk fantasy is so much fun! I highly recommend it to all fans of fantasy and steampunk, or just a butt-kicking heroine.

Chronicles of Steele Raven The Complete Story eBook Pauline Creeden Reviews
I have read non-fiction books by Pauline Creeden, and though well-written, there wasn't an immediate "click" - at least not until I read Chronicles of Steele Raven. This steampunk/fantasy saga is just released as a completed book. Originally released in four episodes, to finally read this completed was a joy! A definite "read at one sitting" tales!
Well-written as well as edited, this story is about Raven, a Reaper. Contacted by the sickly heir to the throne, Raven was charged with not only the protection of Darius - the youngest son who the Duke wanted dead - but to possibly find a cure for his seizures and the problems that they cause. The Wood Witch - someone who was as out of favor with the Duke as the Reapers now were, is where Raven was to take Darius, all the while avoiding the Duke's Guard and keeping Darius safe from all harm.
Danger and adventure followed Raven and Darius throughout their journey. As a Reaper, Raven's mantra had always been that for every soul taken, one must be redeemed. Following this to the letter, Raven put off settling down with her childhood love. Was it too late for Raven? Could she ever have a life outside of that of a Reaper? Could she save Darius? Why did the Duke hate his own son and want him eliminated?
Buy the book and find out the answer to these questions - you won't regret your purchase. I would allow a child of any age to read it with me. There is no inappropriate language and the romance is sweet. Ms. Creeden's descriptions of people, automatons, and nature are captivating. A terrific read!
I am fairly new to the Steampunk genre and I am in love with it. I could not be more thrilled. The Chronicles of Steele Raven took my breath away. It was so fast paced and action packed, there were times I was left trying spin my mind around what had just happened. Every detail was completely formed in my mind I could picture the mechanical horses and how the steam would roll out of their nostrils and the movements they made almost animal like but not quite there. Oh and the characters where to begin. I love Raven Steele! She stole my heart from the very beginning with her story. I don't know how anyone could not like her. Darius was such a sweet young boy he melted my mothers heart. He was so intelligent and yet so sweet and simple all at the same time. I couldn't help but love him. I found several of the other characters in this story so exciting and with out them this story would not be the same. As Raven is pulled back into a life she thought she was leaving she all to soon realizes that this is what she was meant to do. The life of a reaper is not easy and she must make sure to not upset the balance of life and death for every life taken one must be saved. Not an easy task. As Raven goes to it to protect the life of one it's her life that may be taken. The battles fought are fierce and leave you on the edge of your seat. When all is said and done can Raven do what needs to be done to protect Darius without killing anyone or ending up dead herself? With the Duke's guardsmen lead by Captain Jack Grant quickly at her heals finding a safe place is a must. Learning who she can trust and who to not turn her back on becomes a whole other challenge for Raven. Rapidly the table turn and those sent to kill her are soon working with her. Will they be able to save the one life that hangs the most in peril in time? I will leave you with questions unanswered as I feel you need to read The Chronicles of Steele Raven to seek your answers. I will say that I am in admiration of Pauline Creeden as her writing had me pulled so far into this story I didn't want to leave. I at this point can only hope that Pauline will give us another Steampunk novel that will leave me as breathless as this one has. I give this story an absolute must read!
